The Swatch GZ107 RORRIM 5 is one of the most captivating Art Specials of the 1980s. Released in 1987 and created in collaboration with renowned Japanese artist Tadanori Yokoo, this model transforms the classic Swatch into a wearable piece of graphic art. Yokoo became internationally known for his psychedelic posters, bold symbolism, and visually explosive style that helped redefine postwar Japanese design.
The name RORRIM, mirror spelled backwards, reflects the playful and surreal concept behind the watch. Its transparent case, bold red and black strap, and vibrant dial filled with symbols and movement create a striking identity that instantly stands apart. More than a watch, it captures the energy of Tokyo pop culture, experimental graphics, and the fearless creativity of the era.
Production numbers remain a subject of debate among collectors, with sources commonly citing either 5,000 or 9,999 pieces. That uncertainty has only added to the mythology and desirability of this rare release.
