Just two years after Swatch launched in 1983 and helped revive the Swiss watch industry through bold design and industrial innovation, the brand invited Keith Haring to create one of its most iconic artistic collaborations.
Built on the classic GENT platform, the watch features Swatch’s lightweight plastic case, slim profile and precise Swiss quartz movement. Designed for daily wear, it combines comfort, low maintenance reliability and the playful energy that made early Swatch models instantly recognizable. Splash resistant and featherlight on the wrist, it remains a pure expression of 1980s design efficiency.
The white dial and strap become a true canvas for Haring’s visual language. His dancing figures, bold outlines and rhythmic movement transform the watch into wearable art. This was not a simple branding exercise. Swatch commissioned original artwork specifically for the model, integrating art directly into the product itself.
The partnership was historically meaningful because both names shared the same philosophy. Haring rose to fame in early 1980s New York City through his subway drawings and public murals, believing art should be accessible beyond galleries. Swatch carried a similar mission by making Swiss design creative, affordable and part of everyday life. Together, they proved that serious art could live on an everyday object worn by anyone.
Today, it stands as more than a vintage watch. It represents the cultural optimism of the 1980s, the rebirth of Swiss creativity after the quartz crisis and one of the earliest successful bridges between contemporary art and wearable design.
Although this special collaboration was not officially numbered, production is often estimated to be around 9999 pieces, exclusively sold in the US market.
