Released exactly 10 years after Swatch’s birth, the Trésor Magique was a complete unexpected surprise.
More than that, it was an industrial statement.
Taking you back to that time, Swatch had already rescued the Swiss watchmaking industry with quartz. The brand revolutionised the market with its unique DNA; fun, accessible and Swiss made.
Out of nowhere, and in their unique fashion, they came up with a very different project: a platinum 950 case and a ETA 2840-P automatic movement.
Getting back to the industrial statement, the message was clear:
We can do luxury. We just choose not to.
A pretty assertive response to traditional Swiss luxury brands and a clear demonstration of power to the rest of the world.
The project also created a bridge with Swatch Group’s other brands such as Omega, Tissot,…
The gap between the “plastic fantastic” universe and the traditional high end luxury became instantly very small.
Numbered to 12999 pieces, legend has it that when production began, the demand for platinum was so sudden that it briefly affected platinum market flows.
