Created by internationally acclaimed Chinese artist Yue Minjun for Swatch's celebrated Artist Collection. Transforming the watch into a miniature canvas, he covered the dial with his instantly recognizable laughing self-portraits while extending the composition across the vibrant blue strap, creating a seamless expression of his distinctive visual language.
Behind the playful appearance lies a deeper meaning. Yue Minjun's exaggerated smiling figures have often been interpreted as a reflection on conformity, political uncertainty and the tension between the individual and society in post-Tiananmen China. Rather than offering direct criticism, his work relies on irony and ambiguity, inviting viewers to question what lies behind the endless laughter.
